  • How To Ride The Bus in Five Easy Steps.

    1. Plan your trip

A SamTrans Customer Service Representative is available seven days a week to help you plan your trip or answer questions about SamTrans. Call 1-800-660-4287 (TTY 650-508-6448 for hearing impaired).

    2. Boarding The Bus

Be at the bus stop a few minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.

Before boarding, check the electronic sign on the front or side of the bus to verify the route number. Allow passengers to get off the bus before you board.

All SamTrans buses have a kneeling feature that lowers the front end making the first step easier to reach. They also are equipped with lifts or ramps for people who use a mobility device or have difficulty climbing stairs.

    3. Pay Your Fare

Have exact change ready to pay your fare (operator cannot make change) or use your Eligible Discount Pass.

    4. Take A Seat

The seats nearest the bus operator are designated for seniors and people with disabilities. For safety, always remain seated or hold onto the stanchion when the bus is moving.

    5. Getting Off The Bus

Pull the yellow cord above the window or push the vertical strip on the side of the window to signal the bus operator that you want to get off at the next bus stop. Major intersections and transfer locations are automatically announced. You also can ask the bus operator to call out your stop.
