SamTrans Rolls Out "Transit Tubes"
SamTrans passengers now have transit information at their fingertips, thanks to new
rotating “transit tubes” containing route information.
Over the past few weeks, the district has been installing 25 new pole-mounted,
rotating transit tubes with Braille route identifiers at high traffic areas with the
hope of improving passenger access to critical route schedules.
The tubes are part of a district-wide effort to improve system information for riders
of all abilities by offering a Braille route identifier. In addition, the rotating
mount allows wheelchair passengers to more easily view the schedule.
The tubes were installed at major transit centers, including Daly City BART,
Serramonte Shopping Center, Colma BART, South San Francisco BART, San Bruno BART,
Millbrae BART, Hillsdale Shopping Center and Redwood City’s Sequoia Station.
This is part of a program to improve all of the district’s schedule information. If
the transit tubes are well-received, SamTrans will consider adding the rotating
transit guides to other locations as funding becomes available.
