Winner Announced for SamTrans and Radio Disney “Go Green” Contest
Turning in his green tip to SamTrans proved to be prize-winning for one San Mateo County youth. Daniel Meier, 13, of Redwood City won the SamTrans/Radio Disney AM 1310 Go Green contest that kicked off sales of the SamTrans Summer Youth Pass.
Meier, who is a regular SamTrans rider, recorded his Go Green commercial at Radio Disney studios. It will air through July 5.
“It’s important to ‘go green’,” said Meier, “because everything we do can help save our resources for the future and ensure we live on a healthier planet.” Meier plans to use his Summer Youth Pass to go to Giants games, camp, the local youth center and to visit friends.
The SamTrans 2009 Summer Youth Pass Go Green Web site is aimed at riders age 17 years and younger. As part of this year’s campaign, kids were invited to send in a green tip. One lucky winner was selected to record their tip for a spot on Radio Disney.
The Summer Youth Pass is available until July 20 to anyone 17 and younger at nearly 100 SamTrans pass sales outlets located throughout the county, including all Safeway stores.
On a typical weekday, more than 12,000 young people ride SamTrans, which is close to 22 percent of its total ridership. In addition to a discounted youth fare, tokens and the Summer Youth Pass, SamTrans also encourages young people to ride the bus by offering a discounted monthly youth pass.
