flexible impressions: SHUTTLES
Shuttles continue to serve as an integral link in the county’s transportation
system. More than 3,618 weekday passengers used 31 free Caltrain,
BART and community shuttles, taking them to workplaces, schools,
shopping centers or wherever life takes them, with a 99.9 percent on-time
performance rate.
In an effort to maintain flexibility and to meet customer needs, SamTrans
introduced an “on-demand” shuttle service for the residents of the Bayshore
and Brisbane areas in northern San Mateo County. The service replaces a
SamTrans bus route that was eliminated because of low ridership. The shuttle
operates on a fixed route but can be summoned for pick-up anytime during its
operating hours by phoning the shuttle operator. The service is a cost-effective
solution that meets the needs of this particular community.
The district’s shuttle service is funded by Caltrain, SamTrans, the
Transportation Authority Measure A half-cent sales tax, C/CAG and the
Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s Transportation Fund for Clean
Air. The funding also is supplemented by employers. These shuttles contribute
to the lasting impression our community’s public transportation system is
making on the lives of daily commuters, offering one more alternative to get
people where they need to go, safely and ontime.
Fast Fact: 89 county employers encourage employees to take public
transportation by providing shuttle funding to make the last link of their trip.
